IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK…

General news If you enjoyed the Tipp-Ex advert with the ‘hunter shoots a bear’, this is another great example of interactive advertising – brilliant! 

You will now be able to vote for your favourites on American Idol via Facebook!  Will UK shows such as X-factor use this method too?

How far around the world are your contacts?  Facebook friends are on Google Maps so you can see where you are reaching out to.

Social media is bringing people together and isn’t isolating them.  It’s just another tool to keep you in touch with the ones you love or care about J

Need a taxi? There’s an app for that which can find your location via GPS and also automatically charges to your card!

This is a little embarrassing isn’t it Sarah Palin?

One to watch… Are business cards or their way out?  It may be time to move to Hashable.  This is an app which will let you know who is meeting who in real-time.

General news You can now ‘Lendle’ your Kindle in the USA for up to two weeks! Some sites will let you lend across seas – very cool. 

Nike has a new campaign where you can skate, yes skate, on your favourite websites! No pain, just game.

The homeless people are tweeting too as part of a new awareness initiative. Meet Danny, Derrick, Albert and Carlos and they will tell you something that will make you change your mind…

Lil Wayne wins the Guinness World Record for the most Facebook likes in 24 hours!

IntoNow is a great app similar to Shazam, but now for TV!

This is a bit of fun about what happens when we kiss! 😉

One to watch… San Francisco is the first to give this a go. An app which works like a jukebox.  The game is called Roqbot, so you decide what music you want to play at the bar J

General news Everyone likes to get a good deal and now that we can ‘check in’ to various places, it’s only fair to be rewarded for our loyalty.  So now there is a new service offered by Facebook in the USA which does exactly that! 

We’ve all gone Super Bowl crazy! 4,064 tweets per second during the game.Find out who the winners of the adverts were alongside the most discussed celebs!

Has anyone noticed the new photo album style of facebook? Love it or hate it? It’s a great idea for advertising, but isn’t it annoying?

This is something for all the car lovers – a new electric car by Nissan.

A visual search engine for fashion, which tells you what’s ‘trendy’ in which areas and recommends what would best suit you. Love it! This is another one from the US, but it’s really cool! We need one here…

Here’s a thought – Nokia used to be the biggest in mobile phones and since the iPhone hit the market, Nokia have taken a back seat.  The CEO of Nokia isn’t happy. Find out why…

General news We all know about the terrible riots taking place in Egypt – but this hasn’t deterred Google and Twitter from developing a technology which gives ‘power to the people’ without the need of internet! Yes – amazing! 

And following on, Twitter are proud to allow ‘freedom of speech’. Here’s what they have to say about the Event’s taking place.

IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK…

General news Imagine being tagged in a photo on Facebook that you didn’t upload or tag yourself in; well it happens a lot doesn’t it? But what would you do if you found yourself in jail for 50 days as a result?! This is a true story, so keep an eye on your tagged pics!! 

Forgotten the milk?  Well soon you won’t have to worry.

Amazon have launched a new online supermarket service in Seattle, USA where delivery is FREE! What we want to know is – when are they bringing it over here?!

Ever wondered when the first email was sent? Did you know that the computers were right next to each other? It’s truly AMAZING to see how far social media has come over the years.  This is a must read… may even run a quiz on this J

A great social media channel which lets you see what movies are recommended by tweets called fflick, has been acquired by Google! It’s worth signing up for fflick too – we can all tweet about our fav movies!

Google are trying out something new ‘Google Cloud Print’.  Yes that’s right! We have the possibility to print coming to a mobile device near you!

One to watch… Instagram – This is a great app for uploading all your pics in one go to FB, Twitter and Flickr.  Available for iPhones and iPads only, you can easily add pics from your mobile to the internet in a matter of time. You can add effects when you upload these pics, pick what location you have taken the pics and make comments.  A fantastic way to get your friends and family to know what you’re doing.  So have a go and have some FUN!
This week’s awesome case study Following on from the latest news about Amazon, we think this would be a great move forward and will probably make supermarkets re-think their online services. It’s a great service, but at the same time, is anything ever really free??

IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK…

General news Ahhh hasn’t he got some stiff competition according to the Metro this morning? Any Banksy fans?Would you like to know who he is? 

And the privacy issues continue – no we don’t want to share our mobile numbers! No more phone and address sharing by Facebook..for now

Loving how the police are using Twitter innovatively. First it was the GMP and now South Perthshire Police: John C: interesting case study for UUK perhaps? Twitter is so great – even the police are getting involved!

One to watch… Diigo – A great bookmarking site which lets you highlight your text and annotate, saves urls and also takes a picture of your page just in case it expires!   It also lets you set up groups to share your work, imports all your bookmarks from Delicious (if you have an account) TAKE A LOOK AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK J
This week’s awesome case study Yipee it’s about time!! Interesting to see how this will look when it launches at the end of Jan…sure to be lots of other brands who follow suit Online retailer Asos, have launched their Facebook App!
